Cookie policy
What this website stores or reads on your device, and why. In short: no cookies for visitors and no third-party tools.
Cookies
This website sets no cookies for its visitors, either its own or third-party ones, and loads no scripts, fonts, maps or videos from external services: everything is hosted on this domain.
The only exception concerns the site owner: when signing in with a password to the statistics panel (at /statistiche/), the server sets a technical session cookie, gio_stats, needed to keep the owner signed in. It applies only to that section, cannot be read by scripts (HttpOnly), is only sent over a secure connection and only with requests from this site (Secure, SameSite=Strict), and expires when the owner signs out, after 30 minutes of inactivity or after 8 hours at most. Visitors never receive it.
Browser local storage
The website uses your browser's local storage (localStorage) only for the technical entries below. They stay on your device and are not sent to us or anyone else.
| Name | What it does | When it is saved | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
gio-lang | Remembers the language you chose with the IT | EN switch, so the website no longer changes it for you. | Only if you pick a language with the switch. | Until you clear this site's data in your browser. |
gio-stats-consent | Remembers whether you accepted or rejected statistics. | When you press “Accept” or “Reject”. | Until you change your choice or clear this site's data. |
gio-stats-off | Excludes the site owner's own visits from the statistics. | When the site is opened with an address ending in ?nostats=1. The owner uses it to exclude their own devices, but it is saved on any browser that opens that link. | Until it is removed with ?nostats=0 or by clearing this site's data. |
Browser language
If your browser's main language is not Italian and you haven't chosen a language yet, the Italian pages open in English on your first visit. For this, your browser language is only read on your device and is not saved. If you accept statistics, the server only counts your main language in the day's aggregate counters (see "Statistics").
Statistics
We use GIO Stats, installed on the website's web space at Aruba, with no cookies, no identifiers and nothing written to your browser's storage to count you: for each page you open, your browser sends our server the page visited, the general source of the visit and clicks on the main buttons. The server only keeps aggregate daily counters: IP addresses and browser details are not stored; only the device type and main language are worked out from them.
If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, nothing is sent.
Statistics only start after you accept them in the box shown on your first visit, and they stop if you withdraw your choice.
Links to external services
Google Maps, WhatsApp, OpenStreetMap and the City of Verona and ATV websites are just links: nothing loads until you open them, in a new tab. From then on, those services' cookies and privacy notices apply.
When consent is not needed
Under the Italian data protection authority's guidelines on cookies and other tracking tools (10 June 2021), technical tools, needed to provide a service you asked for, such as remembering your chosen language, can be used without consent, with notice only.
Analytics tools count as technical tools, and therefore need no consent, only if they meet all of these conditions:
- they are used only to produce aggregate statistics, for a single website;
- they don't allow people to be identified directly: at least the last part of the IP address is masked;
- if an external provider is involved, it doesn't combine the data with other data or use it for its own purposes.
If even one condition is not met, the website must ask for consent first, with “Accept” and “Reject” given equal prominence, and collect nothing until you choose.
Managing your preferences
You can delete the saved entries at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser settings.
